Love Story

Once upon a time…

there was a little, brown-eyed girl who lived in Virginia and wondered who she might some day marry.  Around the same time, there was an olive-skinned, brown-eyed boy who lived in Florida and wondered where his family might some day move for his dad's job. When the little boy got older his family moved to Virginia and he ended up in the same little town, going to the same little middle school, and soon sat in the same little home base as the brown-eyed girl.  He was the cute, new boy and she was the sweet, shy girl.  Soon they would go to high school together.

One day during their freshmen year, the not-so-little-anymore boy told one of his friends that he might ask out this brown-eyed girl. To the young boy's disappointment, this brown-eyed girl already had a boyfriend.  He was disappointed, but decided to move on. The boy and girl had their own groups of friends, crossing paths every now and then, and soon grew old enough to graduate and go to college.  The boy went away to a small university in the mountains and the girl stayed close and went to a big university in the city.

A few years later the young girl ran into to the boy at her university in the city.  The boy had recently transferred there and was finishing his degree.  They chatted, exchanged numbers, and the boy suggested they get together to catch up; perhaps they could go on a double date. One night, the girl and her boyfriend and the boy and his girlfriend got together for dinner and coffee.  They had a nice time and would soon run into each other again.

A few years passed and the girl and boy spoke very seldomly until one night they ran into each other at a bonfire party.  As the girl, now a young woman, approached this boy-turned young man, his friend whispered to him that the girl was now single.  They hugged, talked, and soon started to talk online.  The boy had gone back to his school in the mountains to pursue another degree and the girl had stayed at home, several hours away, now starting her career.  The more they talked online, the more the girl found that she wanted to talk to him, couldn't wait to get an email from him, and looked forward to their evening chats.  She suggested that they get together over one of his breaks from school.  One afternoon, when she knew he was in town, she called one of their mutual friends and asked for his number.  As she dialed the number, she thought to herself, "this boy will think I like him if I call him," and hit send. She asked the boy if he wanted to get together and found herself hoping that he wanted to see her sooner rather than later.  The boy accepted and suggested breakfast and a movie.

Their breakfast date was wonderful.  They talked, laughed, ate good food, and flirted.  They spent the afternoon watching a movie together, laughing together, and flirting more.  Afterwards, the boy invited her to an engagement party he was attending that evening.  She was hesitant to accept but eventually said yes.  She has always been glad that she did, as this night would be key in the adventure of this boy and girl.
